Description
This public art project was part of an effort to bring attention to Pittsburgh’s Wall Street which was the center of the oil industry before Pittsburgh became known for aluminum, steel and glass. The prototype was a paper weaving from a photograph of the now-demolished 1903 Pittsburgh Stock Exchange, a fire insurance map from the same period, and an insert image of Mike Benedum and Joe Trees, the two oilmen who built and owned the early skyscraper on which this mural is installed. The prototype was digitally reproduced on vinyl from the paper weaving, and enlarged to fit the space. I am standing in front of the installation. It is 22′ wide x 18′ high.
