Shadow of the Masai Collar
I had the amazing good fortune to visit Kenya while I was in graduate school and the impact of that trip was apparent when I designed this collar. Shadow of the Masai is my tribute to the Masai people and the beauty of their decorative arts. My version is made from hand-painted paste papers, chiyogami paper, archival backing paper, embroidery floss, and silk cord. The piercing and stitching takes patience but the detail is rewarding. This collar is 14″ diameter with minimal depth; the clasp uses three silk cords which are tied to close. It can be worn with the silk ties in the front, or the silk ties to the back.
